About

April 30th, 2007

Rusty Pumpkin Poultry Farm was started by Rusty and Gayla McCord along with their four children – Ariel, Trey, Coty and Denton, primarily as a means of raising quality birds that would be shown in our local 4-H chapter and have since expanded into participating in various shows around the Midwest.

After realizing the lack of breeders within our own local market, for a select variety of breeds, we decided as a family, to expand our efforts to help provide local children with quality birds at reasonable prices as well as the option of purchasing in smaller quantities.

Though our primary focus is directed toward children in 4-H, we’ve realized the high demand for quality poultry within the adult arena. Showing poultry is a project that many families are participating in over recent years – not only does it provide families with projects they can do together, but it’s a project that can be done affordably and with minimal space requirements.

Both Rusty and Gayla participated in 4-H as children and know firsthand what benefits this national program is providing. Teaching children responsibility in a world that’s filled with modern conveniences is a challenge all its own – they strongly encourage families everywhere to find a project to do together as a family, whether it’s poultry or not.

Rusty Pumpkin Poultry Farm started operation in September 2006 – so as a rather new operation with a great desire to succeed, we hope you take the journey with us as we share our efforts, photos and lessons learned – along the way.
