This is a Faverolle hen, notice the beard and muff. This is a very calm breed most times they get scared because they can’t see you coming from the sides

Yes it’s that time of year again. Every farm that has kids is getting ready for the Henry County 4-H fair on July 12. Some of the surrounding Countys have already started. 30 plus years ago me and wife went through the same thing with hogs. Now its poultry with our 4 kids, if you would of asked me 30 years ago if i would was a chicken i would have laughed at you now it is a normal thing for this house. One week prior to show we get the 4 wash tubs out and get ready to was birds. Trey has his three Black Cochins to was and hair dry ( that right these fur balls have to be hair dried, never had to do that with a hog). Coty has his White Leghorn Batams (1rooster and 3 hens)< and Denton has his Silver Laced Wyandottes (1 rooster and 1 hen) and 1 Dark Cornish batam. Plus they get to do MOM and DADS birds to, which are for this year 2 silver laced polish batams (1 rooster and 1 hen) and 3 Faverolles ( 3 hens). Mom and dads they only was during 4-H because they show them. When we go to open shows its the hole family. Now the oldest child wich is Ariel (she’s 15 and not real wild about the chickens) is a really good drawer that is her specialty in 4-H. I’m living the fun of 4-H through my kids that is why i like to go to open shows the rest of the year.Good luck to all the 4-H kids and their projects.

This is our 4-H float for the Middletown Indiana fair.

Ariel and Denton getting ready for the parade to start.

Trey and Coty just can’t wait for the parade to start.
